Princeton and Stanford drop requirements for essay testing - The Washington Post

Princeton and Stanford no longer require students to submit the ACT or SAT with writing. Students may send the SAT or ACT without writing, and it will not hurt their applications. In lieu of the writing requirement, Princeton is now requiring students to submit a graded essay from the last three years of high school. While the essay can come from any course, there is a preference for essays from English or History courses. A note for international students: the essay must be written in English, and include grading/rubric, or comments from the teacher in English. For homeschooled students, Princeton will accept “teacher comments” from anyone who is the student’s instructor, including a parent.
